Doti district, situated in the remote hills of Sudurpashchim Province, is undergoing a transitional period politically. The influence of long-established leaders is beginning to wane, as younger candidates bring fresh ideas and energy to the table.
Recent elections illustrate a highly competitive race between the parties mainly, Nepali Communist party, CPN, UML, Rastriya Swotantra party for seats in the federal assembly, indicating a dramatic shift in the balance of power among local parties.
While politicians continue to tout the issues of education, healthcare, job opportunities, and road connectivity throughout their campaign. Messaging, as a citizen of Doti, I have witnessed little action resulting from these initiatives since then. The future of the politics in Doti will be dependent on whether or not these emerging leaders can move beyond the rhetoric and create effective solutions to address these immediate needs. If successful, this could finally lead to the sustainable development and economic opportunities in Doti for the youth in this district.
However, if the focus of local leaders remains on political power struggles it will further aggravate the people of Doti. It is our hope that we will have a leadership that is willing to listen to citizens and turn promises into real progress.
